He is a die-hard lover of cinema and cars. His intricate vision of the world, reflected through his artistic lens, intertwines the ordinary with the extraordinary, creating an original universe that borders on the dreamlike and imaginary.
Many people identify with his illustrations, which restore the innocence and dreams they enjoyed as children. His illustrations often appear in magazines and advertisements.
He was an assistant to the great Akira Toriyama, primarily handling the backgrounds. He designed the famous Kame House in Dragon Ball, among other things.
He subsequently developed his career in different fields. Some of his projects since his time as an assistant include the MOTOR PANIC illustrated books for the Village Vanguard bookstore chain, the Cinema+ series published in Daytona magazine, and exhibitions in collaboration with George Tokoro at the SETAGAYA BASE, the Toyota Museum, and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa.
His most recent works include the illustrated book series Tom to Jerry Sagase! (Find Tom and Jerry!) and Ultra Seven no omochabako (Ultra Seven's Toy Box).
Matsuyama is known for his many talents. Not everyone has published a book about building their dream American-style house.
However, if anything has imploded within his universe, it is the aforementioned MOTOR PANIC series, in which he depicts cities around the world filled with cars.
