Video games arrived in Japan more than fifty years ago and quickly became part of its popular culture. They coexisted with other local entertainment industries, such as toys, manga, and anime. Video games learned from and blended with these industries, absorbing their visual sensibility. Within a few years, Japanese gēmu (video games) had become a global creative force, exporting the country's visual culture.
This exhibition offers a journey into the imaginary world of gēmu, focusing on their dialogue and exchange with manga, where authors, franchises, characters, genres, and even places intersect. We invite you to discover, recognize, or rediscover a pixelated world that has become a universal language. Gēmu on!
