The always cocky, but fast and intelligent basketball player Ryota Miyagi, a Shohoku point guard, always surprises his opponents. Born and raised in Okinawa, Ryota had a brother three years older than him who was considered a local basketball prodigy from an early age. Ryota obviously wanted to follow in his brother's footsteps. In his second year of high school, Ryota qualified for the national championship with the Shohoku High School basketball team along with his teammates Sakuragi, Rukawa, Akagi and Mitsui.

And now the time has come to challenge the reigning champion, Sannoh Industrial High School.
